CogScrobbler
What is it?
CogScrobbler lets you scrobble vinyls, tapes and other analog/offline media. You might want to use it if you listen to vinyls and tapes a lot or have any other need for manual scrobbling.
Where do I get it?
Windows people should go to the download page.
Debian people should read this.
How do I use it?
First, you need to enter your last.fm username and password — do so in the CogScrobbler/Settings dialog. Then:
- After you've listened to an album, enter the artist name in the search field and hit "Search".
- A list of matching artists will (hopefully) appear in the tree on the left. Expand the one that matches best.
- A list of albums will appear. Select the one you've just listened to. The scrobbler cannot do queued submissions yet, you need to scrobble right after you listen.
- A list of tracks will appear in the table on the right. If there are any tracks that can be scrobbled (not shorter than 30 seconds), the "Scrobble" button will become enabled.
Hm, something's not right
See the list of known issues first. (Incidentally, it's also a list of planned new features!) It might have already been discovered, in which case you just have to wait for the next version.
If the search results do not contain what you expected to find, it can be one of the following reasons:
- the artist/album has not been entered in the Discogs database yet — that's what CogScrobbler uses for searching. In that case, it's better for everyone if you register and enter it yourself, that way everybody will be able to use it;
- the album hasn't been voted for as "correct" yet; see #10.
Use the CogScrobbler/Check for updates menu item now and then. Things tend to improve with time. Also, watch for RSS logos while you're browsing!
You can always ask a question, of course. Make sure you mention the exact version you're using (you can find it in the About screen).
And join the last.fm group while you're at it!
